As the cost of living crisis rages on, people are being forced to search for new ways to limit how much they are spending on energy. With this in mind, a financial lifeline could come from an unlikely source.

It might not look like much now, but the humble slow cooker could hold the key to keeping your energy bills down in the kitchen. Slow Cookers usually have power ratings of below 0.3Kw which means they use 10 times less energy than the average conventional electric oven.

The slow cooker, much like an air fryer (air fryer energy saving blog), is ideal for energy saving due their low running costs. You might already have one packed away in your cupboard or like the idea of giving one a try but if you haven’t considered using one instead of your conventional oven, now is the best time to start.

Slow cookers gradually cook food usually within a ceramic bowl that is heated by a low power heating element.  As the element is low power, it uses less energy which reduces spending. 

Tower looks to use only the most energy efficient elements in its slow cooker range. Our lowest wattage slow cooker is the T16020 1.5L slow cooker which runs at only 120 watts, using 0.12kw.  By comparison the best-selling T16042GRY 3.5L Cavaletto slow cooker still only use a paltry 0.21kw at a wattage of 210. All of our slow cookers use heating elements that cost a maximum of 7p per hour to use, or 9p for a 6.5 Litre model. 

Slow cookers are usually available anywhere between 3.5 litre and 6.5 litre models. The large capacity allows for large portions of meals to be cooked at the same time meaning the entire family can be fed from just one cook

The largest capacity slow cooker in the Tower range is the T16043RG Cavaletto 6.5L slow cooker. This massive capacity is enough to slow cook for up to 10 people at a time, perfect for family cooking.

Because of the large capacity Slow Cookers are great for batch cooking.  Batch cook a large meal on a Sunday, portion it out and freeze so that you defrost and eat throughout the week.  One slow cooking session could help you keep down the amount of cooking and energy used during the week. What’s more, you can still cook it from frozen as long as you pre-heat the slow cooker first.(slow cooker tips)
